Give back to your community.

The membership of Mahwah's ambulance squads is made up of Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs) and Drivers. Both roles receive dedicated training, and everyone is trained in CPR, including use of a Semi-Automatic External Defibrillator.

EMTs

EMTs are trained to treat and transport sick and injured people. Training covers a range of Basic Life Support (BLS) skills, including treating for shock, splinting and bandaging, immobilization, patient assessment, and childbirth.

Drivers

Drivers are specifically trained in ambulance operations. Like EMTs, every Driver is trained in CPR and the use of an AED, and works side-by-side with the crew on every call.

Junior Members

Our squad welcomes Junior Members starting at 16 years old. Junior Members must obtain EMT certification, are restricted from riding after 10 PM, and are always supervised by senior squad members. Many satisfy high school community service requirements through their membership.

Training

EMTs and Drivers can train at several EMS academies, with daytime and evening classes offered in the fall, spring, and summer. Beyond academy coursework, we run our own in-house training and drills, often alongside members of the Township's Fire Department and Rescue Squad.
